Terms of Service

Agreement

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Blake Silver, the owner and operator of Familiar ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Familiar. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or older and that any information you provide is accurate.

Your account

You are responsible for your account and everything posted from it. One account per person; accounts are for personal use and may not be sold or transferred.

Community rules

Be real and be decent. You may not: impersonate someone else or use photos that are not you; harass, threaten, or abuse other users; post content that is illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or exploitative; use the app to stalk, follow, or locate someone against their wishes; solicit money from other users; spam or use the app for unauthorized commercial promotion; or use bots, scrapers, or automation. We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, at our discretion.

Scenes and boards

Any user can start a Scene: a real, in-person gathering at a real place. If you start one, you are responsible for it — the place you pin, what you say it is, and the conduct of the gathering itself. A scene's name, meeting place, and schedule are visible to other users nearby; do not pin a scene to your home or anywhere you do not want strangers to arrive.

Each scene has a members-only board for coordinating. Only people who join that scene can read or post on it. Board posts are deleted automatically after 30 days. You may not use a scene or its board to harass, spam, advertise without permission, organize anything illegal, or pretend a gathering exists when it does not.

We may remove any scene or board post, and suspend or terminate accounts, at our discretion. Every scene and every board post can be reported from within the app.

Safety

We provide Report and Block tools on every profile, every scene, and every board post, and we review reports promptly — typically within 24 hours. Photos are screened by an automated moderation service before other users can see them. Blocking is permanent and enforced everywhere in the app: a person you block cannot see you, message you, or appear to you anywhere, including in scenes and on scene boards. However, we do not run criminal background checks on users. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users, online and in person. Always meet new people in public places and use your own judgment.

Location-based features

Crossing detection depends on your device's location services while the app is open. Crossings reflect approximate real-world overlap, not precise positions. We never reveal your exact location to other users.

Subscriptions

Optional paid subscriptions unlock additional features. Payment is processed by the app store you purchased through (Apple App Store or Google Play), and their billing terms apply, including how to cancel. Prices may change with notice. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

Your content

You own the content you post — your profile, your photos, your messages, your scenes, and your board posts. By posting it you give us a limited license to host and display it to operate the app (for example, showing your profile to users you've crossed paths with, or showing your board post to the members of a scene you joined). This license ends when you delete your content or your account. We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive users: you agree not to post it, we screen and remove it, and accounts responsible for it are removed.

Our property

The Familiar app, name, design, and underlying code are the property of Blake Silver. All rights reserved. These terms do not grant you any rights to our brand or software beyond using the app as intended.

Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy of crossings, the activity of any group, or the conduct of any user. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or put other users at risk.
